MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY

We have designed and synthesized 18F-labelled near infra-red (NIR) fluorophores that react selectively with hydroxyl (·OH) and superoxide (·O2-) radicals. The reaction between the probe and these species traps the radiolabeled dyes in cells so that both optical and nuclear imaging can be used to visualize ROS. This project involves preparing libraries of new ROS probes, developing new radiolabeling methods and evaluating the products in cells and preclinical models.
